Pack Your Storage Unit So It Makes Sense

Posted on

If you are going to be putting your belongings into a storage unit, you want to do yourself a big favor and pack the unit right. If you simply stack boxes in the unit then you are never going to be able to find anything without digging through endless amounts of stuff. This article will provide you with helpful tips on how you can pack your storage unit so you have easy access to all your belongings.

Make a chart and number the boxes

One of the best ways to go about keeping things organized is to make a chart using a number system to label your boxes. To make the chart, you want to create a list where each room in the house has a number. If the kitchen is room number 1, then all the boxes labeled "1" will have kitchen items. You can break it down more by making a list with box "1A" containing pots and pans, box "1B" containing plates, etc.

Pack the storage unit wisely

When you are putting your belongings into the storage unit, you want to put all the furniture and appliances near the back. These are the items you won't need to access and, therefore, you can afford for them to be more difficult to reach.

You want to stack the boxes so the boxes from each room are all together. This way, when you need something from a bedroom box, you know right where those boxes are. You should stack the boxes so you leave rows between the stacks that provide you with enough room to walk between them. This will allow you to get at certain boxes without needing to pull out a lot of the ones in the front first.

Use clear plastic storage bins for certain items

If you have a lot of certain types of items, then it may be much easier to find them if you pack them in a clear storage bin. For example, if you have 5 boxes worth of purses, putting them in a clear bin will let you see which bin has the exact purse you are looking for.

Following the helpful advice in this article will make it a lot easier for you to get into your storage unit and find just what it is you are looking for. This will also simplify the unpacking process once you take your items out of the storage unit for good.
